Weekly Tech Picks 24th Feb – 2nd March ’14

It was a big week for tech last week as the Mobile World Congress 2014 kicked off and showcased the best gadgets and digital innovations. If you weren’t able to catch the live updates of the event, here we have a quick summary of the biggest announcements and surprises that happened at the event.

– Yet again, wearable tech was the big star of the show as products such as the Samsung Gear Fit, Huawei Talkband B1 and the Fujitsu Smart Glove emphasised the definitive move to wearables tracking our lives.

– Samsung revealed the much awaited Galaxy S5 at the Barcelona event, showing a 5.1 inch, water resistant, HD screen. Running Android 4.4 Kitkat, the S5 comes with a speedy 802.11c Wi-Fi with MIMO, as well as combining with your LTE connection for a fast Download Booster.

Untitled-1Blackphone was one of the most captivating devices at the Congress. Startup Geeksphone have created a pro-privacy handset which put security and safety before style. The device encrypts everything from texts, to phone calls and local storage. It’s one for the undercover agents!

– Moving on from the Mobile World Congress, last week we mentioned the issues Comcast and Verizon customers were having with streaming Netflix. A week has gone by and Netflix have agreed a deal with Comcast to ensure videos are streamed faster and more smoothly.

Well that’s all for this week! Tune in next week, for more weekly tech updates.
